This past Sunday, October 11th was the 27th anniversary of National Coming Out Day (NCOD), a day in which we celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), or as an ally and an opportunity to encourage inclusiveness of LGBTQ identities. Just as it is important to celebrate the bravery of those coming out in a society in which oppression against minorities still exists, it is also important to celebrate those individuals that recognize our identity, encourage us to own it, and treat us with kindness, dignity, and respect rather than hate or fear.
